What to Expect
Willie’s boat: 31-foot Contender center console (open boat) powered by twin 300-horsepower Yamaha outboards. Features: Chartplotter/sonar/radar, multiple live-bait wells, VHF radio and safety gear including EPIRB (satellite beacon).
The captain: Capt. Willie is a Florida native who has run fishing charters off Palm Beach for 12 years. He holds USCG 6-pack license.
Where are the fish? Usually within 2 to 3 miles of the beach, except in the summer when the boat might run 10 miles or more offshore in search of mahi-mahi (dolphinfish).
Target fish: Kingfish (king mackerel), sailfish, dolphinfish (mahi-mahi), wahoo, cobia and bottom-dwelling fish such as snappers (mutton, vermillion, yellowtail) porgies, triggerfish and the occasional red grouper.
Fishing methods: Live-bait fishing, trolling and bottom fishing.
Family friendly: Children age 5 and older are welcomed, weather permitting.
Dinner fish: We clean & bag your catch. (Sailfish, undersized and out-of-season fish are released alive.)
Restroom: There is no restroom on the boat except for a porta potty, but restrooms are available just inside Palm Beach Inlet on Peanut Island.
