What to Expect
Follow our lead deep into the North Georgia mountains on an adventure built around remote gravel roads, the Tallulah River and the forgotten mountain country surrounding historic Tate City.
You’ll drive your own vehicle while following the Lost Forest lead vehicle and staying connected to your guide by two-way radio. We’ll leave the main roads behind and follow a hand-picked route through river valleys, forest roads and the secluded backcountry of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.
This is one of our ADVENTURE • GRAVEL expeditions. Expect more time exploring outside the vehicle, short walks over natural terrain and travel on maintained gravel mountain roads. Along the way, we’ll stop at selected places to explore the river, mountain scenery and traces of the area’s past.
Tate City was once a remote North Georgia mountain community shaped by mining, logging and life deep in the mountains. Today, the journey into this isolated valley is part of the adventure. Rather than simply driving through, Lost Forest gives you the opportunity to slow down, explore and discover the stories hidden along the way.
No two expeditions have to be exactly alike. Stops may change with weather, road conditions, seasonal closures and what the mountains have waiting for us that day.

Restrictions
This expedition includes travel on winding paved and maintained gravel mountain roads, along with short walks over uneven natural terrain.
Guests must be 6 years of age or older. Children must remain under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
The Tate City Lost Adventure Expedition includes short walks and opportunities to explore at selected stops. Guests should be able to safely enter and exit their vehicle and walk short distances over potentially uneven, rocky, muddy or slippery natural surfaces.
Guests with limited mobility are welcome when they can safely participate with assistance from someone in their own party. Please contact us before booking if you have questions about accessibility.
For everyone's safety, guests may not participate while under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substance that impairs their ability to safely participate or drive.
Drivers must meet all vehicle and licensing requirements. Lost Forest Expeditions reserves the right to refuse participation when a vehicle, driver, passenger, weather condition or other circumstance presents a safety concern.
