What to Expect

The SDI Marine Ecosystem Awareness course is designed to educate divers about the structure, function, and importance of marine ecosystems. This course provides insight into the relationships between marine organisms and their environments, as well as the impact humans can have on these delicate systems.

Divers will learn how to recognize common marine habitats, understand ecosystem dynamics, and apply environmentally responsible diving practices. This course is ideal for divers who want to enhance their appreciation of the underwater world while becoming more mindful and conservation-focused.

Required Skills Performance:

  • Demonstrate awareness of diver impact and mitigation strategies

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 10 years old
  • Open Water Scuba Diver certification or equivalent (recommended but not required for non-diving academic option)
  • Medically fit for diving (if open water dives are conducted)

Graduates of this course receive the SDI Marine Ecosystem Awareness certification. This certification recognizes a diver’s understanding of marine ecosystems and environmentally responsible diving practices.
