What to Expect

An Extraordinary Experience

Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime stay overnight at Greens Ledge Lighthouse - an active lighthouse listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The lighthouse is one of the only offshore lighthouses in the world that hosts overnight guests - limited to just a handful of nights each year - which help to fund the ongoing restoration and preservation.

As the rotating light beacon shines through the night, enjoy breathtaking panoramic 360-degree views of the Connecticut and New York coastlines and the glowing Manhattan skyline. The Lighthouse is fully "off-grid" yet equipped with modern amenities powered by renewable solar and wind systems - including a fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, and an outdoor hot-water shower.

The accommodations at Greens Ledge are completely within the offshore lighthouse itself, a magnificent seven-floor cast iron tower with an active light beacon beaming from nearly 100 feet above Long Island Sound. The newly-restored Lighthouse can accommodate up to six guests, and begins with a tour provided by the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society, after which you'll have the entire Lighthouse and surrounding island to yourself for a magical evening.

Constructed in 1902 to aid the navigation of a bustling maritime route from New York City into Norwalk Harbor, the Lighthouse has become an iconic symbol of the Rowayton and Darien coastal communities with an illustrious history and enduring beauty that stands as a testament to resilience, illuminating the rich heritage of the shoreline community it watches over.

Its foundation was reinforced with 30,000 tons of granite from the excavation of Radio City Music Hall in 1932, which helped it withstand the devastating Hurricane of 1938. During World War II, it served as a strategic coastal defense post, monitoring for enemy submarines in protection of New York City.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lighthouse has inspired generations of renowned artistic works, including masterpieces from Walter Dubois Richards and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. In times of peace and peril alike, it has stood as a steadfast beacon of the New England coast, bridging the past and present.

Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society acquired the Lighthouse in 2016 to spearhead restoration efforts. Following a five-year, $2 million restoration, we’ve now launched the next chapter in the lighthouse's history - "The Next 100 Years" - a campaign that seeks to endow its long-term preservation through a focus on Education, Community, and Sustainability.
