Woodturning: From Log to Bowl
Turn a Locally Sourced Aspen Log into a Solid Wood Bowl
What to Expect
Take a piece of locally sourced Grand Lake aspen and transform it into a beautiful, functional wooden bowl.
In this all-day, hands-on woodturning class, you’ll start with aspen logs sourced right here in the Grand Lake area from the location of the Troublesome Fire. With guidance from an experienced woodturner, you’ll learn the process of turning a raw log into a solid wood bowl—from preparing and mounting the wood on the lathe to shaping, hollowing, and refining your piece.
The bowls will be modest in size, making them approachable for beginning turners while giving you the opportunity to experience the complete bowl-turning process. Every piece of aspen has its own natural grain, character, and variations, so no two bowls will be exactly alike.
This class is designed as an introduction to bowl turning and is appropriate for students with little or no previous woodturning experience.
Spend the day working with locally sourced wood, learning a traditional craft, and creating a one-of-a-kind piece with a genuine connection to Grand Lake.
