Centurion Train Ride & Dark Mine Tour w/ Gold Panning
Minimum 1 Hour • All Ages • Includes Gold Panning • SEASONAL
What to Expect
Your adventure begins with a short 0.15 mile hike along a scenic dirt trail winding through the beautiful Rocky Mountain forest. At the top, your ride awaits. Step aboard a historic Atlas K 3.5 Ton Locomotive, pulling our refurbished mine carts transformed into open-air passenger cars. As your conductor guides you along the mountainside, you’ll enjoy sweeping views and fascinating stories of the area’s rich mining past.
Your journey leads you to the entrance of one of the oldest mines in the valley, the Centurion Mine. Here, you’ll grab a hard hat and lantern and venture 400 feet into the underground world. Inside, your expert guide brings the mine’s history and geology to life. You’ll explore cave-like openings and discover stunning fluorescent rock formations that make this experience truly one of a kind! After exiting the Centurion Mine, hop back aboard the train and ride back to the other end of the track. It's all downhill from here as you take a walk down the path!
After your tour, learn how to pan for gold and have a go at it yourself! We provide gold panning lessons with our experienced staff and loan each guest a gold pan to use. During warm weather months, pan for gold in a real, gently flowing mountain creek! Many have found pieces of glimmering gold and gems. During cold weather, pan for gold underground in our gold panning tank. Many have found gold and other gems in both settings. Most importantly, keep what you find!
Don't forget to stop by our 1950's Bus Gift Shop to checkout our handmade, keepsake, remembering your adventures at the Phoenix Gold Mine!
