North Cascades National Park Classic Climbs
Ages 8+ • Up to 2 People • 2-4 Days
What to Expect
The Cascades offer some of the most accessible glaciated terrain in the lower 48 states. The rugged terrain is very different from what we offer in Colorado and is a great opportunity to challenge one self where altitude is less of a factor.
Without booking 6 months in advance we can rarely guarantee a specific route because of backcountry permit requirements and the popularity of certain areas.
We are happy to figure out a route similar in terrain and quality to some of these below.
East Ridge of Eldorado Peak: For those who are new to glacier climbs or the Cascades this is an enjoyable way to learn the basics. After following a decent trail to the glacier you can camp on the shoulder before ascending the glacier to the ice ridge leading to the summit.
Eldorado Peak West Arete
A complicated approach up and over the Triad Col eventually leads to the base of Eldorado Peak on the west side. From here almost 3000 feet of climbing will get you to the summit but there are some interesting moves along the way.
Torment-Forbidden Traverse
One of the more complicated routes in the area this starts with an ascent of Torment before finding your way through a glaciated area and re-acquiring the ridge. This exposed ridge continues across into the W. Ridge of Forbidden and on to the summit
Sahale Peak
A great introduction to climbing in the Cascades this has two glacier approaches via the Quien Sabe and Sahale glaciers. Both give climbers a great introduction to glacier travel and amazing views of Cacade Pass and the Boston Basin area for future climbs.
East Ridge of Mt. Triumph
Mt. Triumph is a stellar summit with a fantastic East ridge climb. With an enjoyable 5 mile backpack to a camp near an alpine lake the next day starts the technical climbing. A rough hike up a talus field leads to a short glacier crossing before you hit the 1000 foot ridge that yields stellar views of the Picket Range and surrounding Cascade peaks.
