What to Expect

While previous snow climbing experience is helpful to the suggested two day curriculum it isn't necessary for the custom nature of the course. During this glacier travel course participants will learn:

  • How to choose and use gear.
  • How to use crampons and ice axes to arrest a crevasse fall.
  • Snow protection and anchors for running and fixed belays.
  • Navigation of crevassed terrain and strategies for glacier travel.
  • Raising systems and ascending fixed lines.
  • After taking this climbing course participants should feel capable of climbing ice where leading is not needed.

No previous climbing experience is necessary. While helpful primarily participants must be able to take care of themselves in cold, wet alpine environments.
