What to Expect
The Death Valley Natural History Association is pleased to be able to offer these additional walking tours of the Scotty's Castle Grounds. This tour is similar to the Flood Recovery tours offered by the NPS.
Learn about the colorful history behind the notorious mining scam that inspired a castle in the desert, along with updates on recovery work and long-term restoration projects.
Morning and afternoon tours available most tour days:
- Morning tours: 9:30–11:30
- Afternoon tours: 1:00 – 3:00
Led by knowledgeable DVNHA staff.
Proceeds fund DVNHA operations and partner support.

Tour is Outside only.
Approximately two hours of walking over uneven surfaces. Moderate/Strenuous.
Tours available
- Most Saturdays and Sundays, October and November 2026
- Select Saturdays and Sundays in December
- Most Saturdays, January through April 2027.
NO PETS – NO EXCEPTIONS
Service dogs are allowed up at Scotty's Castle for these tours. As long as they are properly trained, do not cause any disruptions, and owners properly clean up after them. Park staff reserve the right to cancel the tour if the Service Animal is not properly trained or if they cannot be controlled.
Flash photography and videotaping are allowed.
BATHROOMS
- Flush Toilets are available at the meet-up location, Grapevine Ranger Station.
- Portable toilets are located in the parking area on the Castle grounds.

Restrictions
- Participants will not enter closed areas without DVNHA staff present.
- No pets allowed (service dogs permitted when properly trained and controlled).
- No children under 10.
- Not suitable for those with difficulty standing or walking; tour is not ADA accessible.
