What to Expect
Welcome to Catalina Divers Supply &Congratulations on taking your first step into the underwater world!
We are excited to be part of your journey from your very first breath underwater to becoming a confident PADI Open Water Diver!
Your PADI Open Water Diver course is the beginning of an exciting journey that will give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become a safe and independent certified diver.
During your course, you will complete three important parts:
PADI eLearning – Learn the essential knowledge and dive theory at your own pace.
Your PADI eLearning must be completed before beginning your in-water training. Please allow yourself plenty of time to work through the material rather than leaving it until the last minute.
Medical Questionnaire
All students are required to complete the appropriate PADI medical questionnaire. Depending on your answers, you may be required to obtain medical clearance from a physician before participating in any in-water activities.
Confined Water Training – Work with your PADI Instructor to learn and practice the scuba skills you need to become comfortable and confident underwater.During Your Training
Your PADI Open Water Diver course combines knowledge development, confined-water training, and four open-water training dives.
Your instructor will demonstrate each skill and give you time to practice. The goal is for you to become comfortable, capable, and confident with the required skills.
Scuba certification is performance based. This means certification is awarded when all required course skills, knowledge development, and training dives have been successfully completed.
Open Water Dives – Put everything you have learned into practice while experiencing the incredible underwater environment of Catalina Island.
What We Ask from You
Come ready to learn, participate, ask questions, and have fun. Scuba diving is a performance-based course, so every student progresses by successfully demonstrating the required skills—not simply by completing a certain number of hours.
Attendance & Being on Time
Please arrive at the time provided in your course confirmation. Diving involves equipment preparation, briefings, buddy assignments, and scheduled water sessions.
Arriving late may affect your ability to participate in that day's training and could require additional training time.
If You Need Additional Training
Everyone learns at a different pace. Occasionally, a student may need additional confined-water practice or extra instructor time before progressing to the next part of the course.
If additional training is required, your instructor will discuss the best options with you. Additional sessions, equipment rental, instructor time, transportation, or other expenses may involve an additional charge.
