What to Expect
In this motorized day trip
, tour participants will be transported to the historic border town of Douglas, Arizona.
This tour begins at the Slaughter Ranch, home of the famous Texas John Slaughter, both a working facility and a museum to Arizona's ranching history.
After that, the tour will visit the Gadsden Hotel, one of the most ornate hotels in all of Arizona. At the Gadsen, tour participants will be regaled with stories recounting how Pancho Villa in 1916 rode his horse up the steps of the hotel's marble staircase in the course of the Mexican Revolution, the speakeasy that existed during prohibition and the experiences of notable Americans such as Thornton Wilder and Johnny Depp.
After a short break for street tacos and/or Sonoran hot dogs at the Douglas City Park, tour participants will enjoy tours at three different galleries including the Art Car World Museum which was created by Harrod Blank who starred in the movie Killer Klowns from Outer Space, The Last Supper Museum which purports to have the largest and most diverse depictions of the Last Supper anywhere in the world and finally learn about one of the nation's longest ongoing high school rivalry. Tie permitting, we'll also see a local art museum.
