San Bernardino Field Experience

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Field Experience offers students a hands-on, immersive opportunity to explore modern law enforcement while supporting informed career decision-making. Designed for students scheduled to graduate as well as those who want to better understand the profession, this experience combines real-world exposure with insight into the law enforcement hiring and testing process.

Students will engage with core law enforcement divisions and specialized units, participate in ride-alongs, and interact directly with professionals across the department. For those interested in employment, students may submit applications in advance, complete online testing, and begin the background process prior to the trip. When scheduled, students may also complete portions of the physical fitness assessment during the field experience. Graduating students may know around the time of graduation whether they have been selected for hire and scheduled for academy training.

This experience bridges classroom learning with real-world practice, helping students understand procedures, ethics, teamwork, and decision-making in policing. For students still exploring career paths, the field experience provides valuable perspective to help guide future choices. More than a tour, this opportunity builds confidence, clarity, and professional readiness for careers in criminal justice and public safety.
