What to Expect
Private Fairbanks Aurora Tour with Photos
(Guided by Levi Johnson)
The aurora borealis is nature’s most spectacular light show, and Fairbanks is one of the best places in the world to see it. Head out under the northern lights with Levi Johnson - experienced aurora guide, photographer, and commercial pilot by training. Unlike most guides, Levi watches real-time space-weather and reads cloud forecasts, understands auroral patterns, and knows how to move when conditions change. In short, he’s one of the few who can genuinely anticipate when and where the lights are most likely to appear. Mother Nature can throw curveballs, but Levi comes prepared with the tools, flexibility, and know-how to give you the best possible chance.
Photographers are welcome. If you’re chasing world-class shots, Levi knows the quiet, photogenic spots around
Fairbanks, far from the big tour vans and crowded pullouts. Levi is fully licensed and commercially insured to operate in Alaska, and he values safety and customer experience above all else.
Enjoy Alaska's night skies with just your own group. A private tour lets Levi build the night around you: longer stops for photography (including timelapses), your own pace, and no strangers in the vehicle.
Why book a private tour?
Private aurora tours are best for groups up to six people. Our chase vehicle fits five passengers comfortably, and six may be a bit of a squeeze. The private tour is a fixed rate for up to five people, plus $100 for a sixth guest. It's also the tour to book if you have guests under 13, a wedding proposal planned, or anyone with mobility needs. Cancellation Policy
This tour is FULLY refundable up to 72 hours prior to your INITIAL tour departure date and time.
nWe cannot guarantee that the aurora will appear during your tour, or how bright it will be. Once your guide picks you up, your tour has begun and is NOT refundable, even if the aurora is fainter than you hoped or no aurora is seen because of clouds or low auroral activity. The photos included with your tour are portraits under the aurora, so if there is no aurora that night, photos may not be provided, and no refund is given for them.
nIf your tour is rescheduled due to weather or poor aurora conditions, the 72 hours timeline does NOT transfer to the new date. You need to either let us know 1. the new date will work (non-refundable) or 2. the new date will not work (full refund).
nIf you no-show or cancel a rescheduled tour that you agreed to in writing (e.g., text/email) to attend, you will not be refunded!
nCancellations based on overwhelmingly poor weather conditions will be refunded by The Aurora Guy LLC as soon as possible. Cancellation requests less than 72 hours from initial booking departure date will only be granted if the tour is completely canceled due to weather or other conditions. The Aurora Guy LLC will accommodate reschedules based on availability. You may decline to be rescheduled if your itinerary does not allow, and you will receive a full refund in that case.
