What to Expect
Wilderness First Aid Course
This Wilderness First Aid course is designed to prepare participants with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to provide first aid and emergency care in remote environments where definitive medical care may be 30 minutes or more away.
The course builds on foundational First Aid and CPR knowledge and focuses on applying those skills in a wilderness setting. Participants will learn how to assess and manage injuries and illnesses, make informed decisions in remote environments, and provide care while awaiting evacuation or advanced medical assistance.
Course Format
This is an in-person, instructor-led course focused on wilderness-specific concepts, scenario-based learning, and hands-on skills practice. Participants will have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate the skills required for successful course completion.
Course Requirements
Participants must:
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certification from an accredited organization
- Attend and actively participate in the in-person course
- Bring a personal emergency medical kit suitable for providing care in a wilderness setting
- Successfully complete all required hands-on skills evaluations
- Successfully complete the written examination
The personal emergency kit will be used during the course to help participants become familiar with the equipment and supplies they may need when providing patient care in a backcountry or remote setting.
Upon successful completion of all course requirements, participants will receive their Wilderness First Aid certification, valid for two years.
Prerequisite
A current First Aid and CPR certification is required to participate in this Wilderness First Aid course.
